Unfancied Steaua picked up Europe’s top prize in 1986 defeating Barcelona on penalties after a 0-0 draw. The penalty shoot out saw Steaua goalkeeper Helmut Ducadam become a National Hero in Romania by unbelievably saving all 4 Barcelona penalties as Steaua ran out 2-0 winners on penalties. This victory saw the trophy head to Eastern Europe for the first time. The entire Steaua team were born in their home country of Romania.
